So hired it out and watched it again, hadn't seen it in a few decades and it still holds well IMO.
It's more of a melodrama, compared to the James Cameron blockbuster of 1997, but there is still humour in there. It captured a lot more of the panic on the upperdecks as the "Women and children only" were allowed in boats, and you can clearly see how director James Cameron was inspired and loved/taken with this film.
This film was released in 1958 of course, long before people knew the ship split in two, so here it goes down in just one piece. Much like how Raise The Titani (1980), guesses the where abouts five years before it was discovered and if you look at the naughtical longitude latitude they actually weren't far off! Seeing it again I really like Kenneth More as the second officer, and for it's time the film was still very well done, even just the slight dutch angle here and there the more the ship started to go down.
