We're gonna need a bigger boat right?! Still a classic, watched it again on July 4th and it still holds up. I know it's comedy to rip apart the fake shark, but the writing, direction and characters still make the film excel and the genuine horrors of what's in the water. I first saw it on TV and the only thing that got me was the abandoned boat in the middle of the oceas/underwater scene. If you've still not watched it, what are you waiting for? Even after 46 years, it's still a classic with great storytelling characters and moments. Let us know what you think of this movie!

Great movie and one I have in my collection. When they say it scared people from getting in the water at beaches, they weren't kidding. Also, the iconic line about needing a bigger boat was completely ad-libbed and liked so much it was kept in.
Say what you will about "Bruce" the shark, but those were pretty stunning effects for the time. It's funny to note that he broke down a lot, lol.
Anyway, as stated it still holds up as a solid, scary movie today and if you haven't seen it, you really should. Well worth a watch even now.

Especially with Quint and the way he met his maker, I still find that brutal (And very well done) even today! I just love how layered the three main characters are though - Chief Martin Brody - New Yorker, family man - afraid of the water. ("It's only an island if you look at it from the water"). Hooper - the rich intellectual and voice of reason. Finally Quint, the salty sea-dog fisherman, harsh, blunt but very straight with you straight-talking. Shaw played the hell out of Quint, sometimes just a loom of a madman glint in his eye when he smiles with a hint of danger.

Shaw was drunk during a lot of the filming, so I would imagine he was really letting loose. It turned out great but it was a pretty big issue with some folks on the set. Also, in the book Hooper had an affair with Brody's wife and later Hooper is killed in the shark cage and Brody isn't necessarily sad about it. It's been a long time since I read it, but I remember liking the book and the movie both. Thought it was a great cast in the movie and that even with the changes, it did the book justice.

We did get that great speech after the scar/tatoo scene though, where he was so plastered the first time to the point of embarresment and shame he begged Speilberg for another go at it, which is where we got that all in one take by Shaw.T o be honest I'm glad the film strayed a little from the book, I don't think it would've worked if they kept it in - a bitter Brody not caring whether Hooper dies or not.

You know, I never really watched this classic movie from the beginning to the end. I think because I like marine life that it was hard to see it portrayed as something mean lol Anybody catching the new one?

(First I've heard of it) You really should give it a go though! In the classic "X amount of films to see before you die" kind of list, it's definetly worthy. A speilberg classic. With the majot events taking place on 4th July in the movie that's when I tend to watch it each year!

It seemed people wanted a new Jaws movie but Steven Spielberg doesn't want the remake. You never know if it will actually come to pass however with interest in reboots & remakes so prevalent nowadays. I'm not sure if I would catch the new one if it did come out. Just like most of these shows, when it has too long of a time span in between, it tends to lose the meaning. I know my husband watched the original & loved it. So I may see if we can catch it on TV or get it from the library to check it out

JAWS is a good film but I wouldn't say it's great. At least in my opinion. Maybe it's just me but it hasn't aged well with all the other shark films out there.
